Overall Purpose
The Special Education Coordinator provides leadership, support and technical assistance in implementing the District's Special Education program to ensure provision of needed services for students with disabilities. The Special Education Coordinator works to provide individualized programs to meet the needs of all students with disabilities and ensure compliance with all state, federal, and local requirements.
Essential Functions
- Assists in the planning, coordination and supervision of district special education programs.
- Prepares and submit district and state reports related to the program for special education.
- Coordinates and delivers staff development for special education teachers, paraprofessionals and administrators.
- Monitors and supports the implementation of IEP services and special education instruction to students with disabilities in compliance with IDEA mandates.
- Monitors staffing plans at each school for compliance with GA DOE DES maximum class size.
- Supervises Special Education Support Specialists to provide support to special education teachers.
Requirements
Valid Georgia professional certification in applicable subject area; Leadership certification certificate strongly preferred.
Physical Requirements
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of
force as frequently as needed to move objects.
Education/Training
Maintains all licenses and certifications.
