Overall Purpose 

To provide support to the instructional program within assigned classroom with specific (One to One) responsibility for assisting in the supervision, care and instruction of special needs students; assisting in implementing plans for instruction; monitoring the student behavior during non – classroom time; providing information to appropriate school personnel; and attending IEP meetings.

 

Essential Functions

  • Implements under the supervision of assigned teacher, behavioral plans designed by IEP team for students with behavior disorders or other special conditions for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.Assist student with physical disabilities according to their needs to include, but not limited to transferring to and from wheelchairs; lifting; positioning; or assisting students with personal care such as feeding, bathroom needs and personal hygiene.
  • Administers immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a health care professional (e.g. tube feeding, medication, etc.) for the purpose of meeting immediate health care needs.
  • Administers classroom assignments, test, homework assignments, make-up work, etc. for the purpose of supporting teachers in the instructional process.
  • Assists student with lesson assignments (e.g. read stories, listen to students read, providing writing assistance, reinforce English lessons, provide spelling practice, facilitate activities, social skills, daily living skills, etc.) for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts; implementing IEP plans; and ensuring students success in school.
  • Monitors individual in a variety of settings (e.g. classroom, playground, field trips, library, lunchroom, car and/or bus loading/unloading, etc.), and responds to emergency and non-emergency situations for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Maintains confidentiality of students and other professional information.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

 

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED Certificate required.

60 Semester hours of college credit from an accredited educational institution or

a passing score on the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment required.

Successful experience in job related area preferred.

 

 

Physical Requirements

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting (up to 50 pounds), carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent stooping, kneeling, and crouching.

 

Education/Training

Maintains all licenses and certifications.
