Overall Purpose
To transport students over scheduled routes and/or to/from special excursions; ensuring vehicle operation is in safe operating condition; and ensuring safety of students during transport, loading and unloading from buses.
Essential Functions
- Drives school bus for the purpose of transporting students over scheduled routes to and from school and/or special activities in a safe and timely manner.
- Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections (e.g. fluid levels, tire pressure, exterior condition, wheelchair lift, tie-downs, safety vest and other related items, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safe operating condition of the vehicle and complying with federal and state mandated guidelines.
- Advises and monitor students and other passengers during transit of appropriate behavior for the purpose of ensuring the safe transportation of all passengers.
- Attends CPR, First Aid and Child Abuse training and administers first aid and medical assistance for the purpose of providing immediate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured children.
- Assists students and other passengers for the purpose of providing safe loading and unloading from buses during normal transport and emergency situations. Ensures all students are seated properly and secured for safe transportation. Ensure all students are off the bus when parked at the end of each run.
- Cleans and fuels assigned vehicle (e.g. oil, water, fuel, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining vehicle in a safe operating condition, appearance, and sanitation of vehicle.
- Prepares reports (e.g. incident reports, inspections records, passenger misconduct, discipline, accidents, inappropriate social behavior, prepare time logs for medications given, student counts, routing information, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, conveying information, and/or complying with established guidelines.
- Attends all monthly safety meeting required by the director and/or designee.
- Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Requirements
High School Diploma or GED Certificate preferred.
Successful experience in job related area preferred.
Physical Requirements
Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of
force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force as needed to move objects or individuals. In an emergency, worker may be required to restrain a physically active individual as a temporary safety precaution. Generally, the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.

Maintains all licenses and certifications.

Criminal Background Check
- Valid Georgia Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger endorsement, air brake endorsement, “S” endorsement, and verification of an acceptable three (3) years driving record through the Department of Driver Services.
- Successful completion of driver’s training course meeting state and federal guidelines.
- Must pass an initial drug test and alcohol test prior to employment.
- Must pass any random drug/alcohol tests as required by employer.
- Must pass a physical examination prior to employment.
- Must pass Department of Education physical exam by Georgia physician within 60 days of the start of a new school year.
