Overall Purpose
To provide support within the student transportation services area with specific responsibilities for assisting special education students during the transport to and from school and/or special activities; ensuring safety of students during transport, loading and unloading from buses; and ensuring the safety and sanitation of assigned vehicles.
Essential Functions
- Assists special education students and other passengers for the purpose of providing safe loading and unloading from buses during normal transport and emergency situations. Verify that all students are off the bus when parked at the end of each run.
- Advises and monitor special education students and other passengers during transit of appropriate behavior for the purpose of ensuring the safe transportation of all passengers.
- Attends CPR, First Aid and Child Abuse training and administers first aid and medical assistance for the purpose of providing immediate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured children.
- Secures students, and/or their equipment and operates wheelchair lift, (e.g. restraints, safety vest, wheelchair tie downs, seat belts, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safety and well-being of students; maintains and inspects special education equipment.
- Assist with cleaning the inside of the school bus for the purpose of maintaining vehicle in a safe operating condition, appearance, and sanitation of vehicle.
- Prepares reports (e.g. incident reports, attendance reports, passenger misconduct, discipline, accidents, inappropriate social behavior, prepare time logs for medications given, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, conveying information, and/or complying with established guidelines.
- Attends all required department meeting.
- Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Requirements
High School Diploma or GED Certificate preferred.
Successful experience in job related area preferred.
Physical Requirements
Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of
force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force as needed to move objects or individuals. In an emergency, worker may be required to restrain a physically active individual as a temporary safety precaution. Generally, the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.

Maintains all licenses and certifications.

Criminal Background Check
- Must pass an initial drug test and alcohol test prior to employment.
- Must pass any random drug/alcohol tests as required by employer.
- Must pass a physical examination prior to employment.
- Must pass Department of Education physical exam by Georgia physician within 60 days of the start of a new school year.
- Must successfully complete training course meeting all state and federal guidelines.
